Mayfair’s most famous residents

Tuesday, February 27, 2018

Did you know that Her Majesty The Queen was born in Mayfair? 92 years ago this April, Elizabeth Windsor was born at her maternal grandfather’s London home: 17 Bruton Street.

Other famous residents of the area include Sir Winston Churchill, George Frederic Handel and Jimi Hendrix (whose former residences are now open to the public as the Handel & Hendrix Museum on Brook Street), and former Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. 19th Century author Fanny Burney lived on Bolton Street and Jeeves creator P.G. Wodehouse resided on Dunraven Street. Lord Nelson lived on New Bond Street and Florence Nightingale lived and died at a house on South Street.

Keep your eyes peeled when your wander around Mayfair, as many of these famous residents are commemorated with a blue plaque.
