Madisons restaurant and bar is hidden within Curzon Street’s The Washington Hotel. The hotel is a popular choice by touring international travellers, with its independent family-run appeal and oh-so convenient location.
An inviting cosy bar can be found at the back of the hotel lobby; leading way to the restaurant. We visited on a weekday evening, when the majority of the other diners were enjoying business dinners.
We kept it traditional – a starter, main and dessert; the style of the menu.
Enjoying starters of a welcomingly- refreshing Gazpacho Soup and Salmon Gravadlax; both winning classics and keeping us suitably chilled during a warm August. It is worth commenting that the hotel and restaurant are comfort cooled.
Our mains were further classics; with a beautifully presented Chicken Tikka Masala (sometimes when you see it on a menu, you just have to order it) and the Teriyaki Salmon on a bed of stir-fried vegetables. Yes, we double salmon-ed. And no, the kind staff did not judge; they were a dream in fact.
For dessert; we were talked into the Chocolate Torte and Cheesecake; again, further classic dishes.
We’d recommend Madison for when you are looking for classic dishes, in a comfortable and casual environment; perhaps for when the parents are visiting town for the weekend? Or post park walk, when you are looking for an all-round crowd pleaser.
I should state just ow difficult it can be to find consistent classic’s in Mayfair; that is neither cafe, nor pub, nor 5* hotel.
Thank-you to Madison for inviting us in for dinner; we’ll be back soon for that Chicken Tikka Masala!
