Mnky’ing around Dover Street

Friday, September 28, 2018

Opening in the former Dover Street Wine Bar – if you know, you know. Mnky Hse first opened as a bar, come restaurant. The cocktails knocking you off your feet.

Fast forward two years, and Mnky Hse encourages use of that famous staircase to descend downstairs towards the restaurant – with its very own bar.

The open plan dining space – with a few ‘cave dining ‘options, was full of Thursday night atmosphere – dinners of two, casual group dinners, business group dinners and a few mother/daughter duo’s. We even bumped into someone we knew – its always nice to compare notes 😉

The Latin-American inspired sharing menu was a little too lengthy for my liking and we eventually agreed on ordering the following:

Mnky Ceviche – our favourite dish, Wagyu Tostadas – as recommended and enjoyable, Chicken Chipotle Soft Tacos- an enjoyable kick. Wild Mushrooms Soft Tacos – another favourite. Soft Shell Crab Tempura – a generous dish, Baby Chicken – perfectly chargrilled and a memorable heritage Tomato Salad.  We had great fun playing with the monkey toys; can you spot them in the photos?

Cocktails to start, consisted of a Pisco and Jasmine Sour and a Mezcal with ginger and lime. Whilst opting for a glass of Malbec and a glass of Pinot Noir with the dishes.

We so enjoyed the food, which arrived so promptly- dishes arriving, as the kitchen prepares them. Our only comment which was also shared by the person we bumped into, was the speed of drinks service, our cocktails arrived a long time after our dishes began to arrive and similarly it took 10minutes for two glasses of wine to arrive at the table.

Recommended for lunch/dinner and casual/business; live music Wednesdays, a general all-round pleaser.

Thank-you to Mnky Hse for inviting us; we’ll be back soon.
