San Carlo St James opened its doors during the summer months, and features a lovely covered alfresco area.

Part of the famed San Carlo group, who also own nearby Cicchetti, the restaurant offers all-day dining and is perfect for those smart/casual moments.

We visited on a rainy Friday afternoon and looked forward to enjoying a few classic comforts; with abundant assistance from the oh-so attentive staff.

& enjoyed individual mains; Taglioni with crab, lemon and saffron (starter size), grilled langoustines with garlic butter and lemon and finished with a shared chocolate bombe dessert; and Grappa.

We paired the dishes with glasses of light Chardonnay; our dishes were the main courses; the Autumn salad was lacking in autumnal vegetables and the black truffle sauce said to accompany the gnocchi, was not so truffle’y.

We would recommend visiting when trying to escape the hustle of Regent Street, for a group supper and pre/post theatre dining.
