Neon Legacy, Chris Bracey

Bankrobber Gallery, Shepherd Market

Monday 3rd to Thursday 13th October

12Midday to 8pm

Mayfair’s Shepherd Market will be lit up with neon signs for a free outdoor art exhibition. The signs are the work of Chris Bracey, the man behind the brilliant neon sign workshop ‘God’s Own Junkyard’ in Walthamstow.

Bracey died aged 59 in 2014, but his family have kept his workshop open. The exhibition marks two years since his death, and is curated by his wife Linda and sons Marcus and Matthew. Bracey was responsible for creating many of the neon lights in and around Soho and the West End. He also collaborated with artists including Damien Hirst and Martin Creed, and worked on films including Blade Runner and Batman.

The artworks shown here are just some of many that will be on display in Shepherd Market, many of which are too large to display in an art gallery. Following this 10-day exhibition of Chris Bracey’s work, Bankrobber Gallery will exhibit the work of his son, Marcus Bracey, who worked with his father from the age of 12.
