Crossrail meets Mayfair

Tuesday, January 23, 2018

You may have noticed the huge amount of building work going in Mayfair for the new Crossrail line… Well, it has been going on since 2010. It might be a bit noisy and disruptive, but we’ve done some research to find out how the new Crossrail Elizabeth line is going to impact the area.

The new Bond Street Crossrail station is designed to improve accessibility and capacity at one of central London’s busiest stations, to accommodate over 225,000 people using the Jubilee, Central and Elizabeth lines every day. There will be two new ticket halls at street level, one at Davies Street and the other at Hanover Square.

The new Bond Street station with access to the Elizabeth line will make commutes much quicker for lots of London workers. The journey time to Paddington will be reduced to 3 minutes, and you’ll be able to reach Whitechapel in just 10 minutes.

The existing Bond Street tube station is also being upgraded to include a new station entrance on Marylebone Lane, and additional escalators to the Jubilee line. There will be step-free access throughout the station and an interchange with the new Crossrail station.

The new Bond Street station is set to open in December 2018. It sounds like it will be worth the wait – and the noise!
